Athlete Q&A

ERIK SCHULLSTROM

What is your most memorable Alameda sports moment? I think my most memorable moment was winning the ARPD Midget Baseball championship for the Edison Indians.

What is your most memorable moment as a professional athlete? Probably throwing a no-hitter for Class A Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles). The very next game I gave up back-to-back-to-back-to-back HR's and didn't get out of the first inning.

Which person or coach had the biggest impact on your career and why? Very tough to say. I'll say it's a tie between Mark Bryant, Don Murray, Steve Yamasaki, Bob Bennett (Fresno State Coach) and Rick Anderson (Current Minnesota Twins pitching coach). Each had a big impact on me as a player and person at very different times in my life.

Who is your favorite current athlete to watch and why? I think at the moment, maybe

Golden State Warriors guard Monta Ellis. I really enjoy his quick dynamic game and having the chance to see him blossom into a star in the NBA.

Are you still involved in sports? Yes, I am the USA based Scouting Director for the

Hiroshima Carp. The Carp are one of Japan's 12 Major League teams and I have a big

role in selecting our GaiJin(Foreign) players.
